Emma Plante has been chosen as the first Saco Valley Swim Team member to be featured in the Conway Daily Sun’s “SVST Swimmer Profile”. Emma is deserving of this recognition because of the hard work, positive attitude and fine performances she has demonstrated throughout her four years on the team.

Especially significant were her performances at the GSSA State Meets in 2011 and 2012. In 2011 after posting a strong personal best time in the 50 meter breaststroke event we learned that she had been disqualified for a technical infraction. Instead of getting upset she accepted it with maturity and moved on to swimming fast in the rest of her individual events and relays. In 2012 Emma was our girls high point scorer. Her accomplishment was made all the more impressive because she was competing in the fastest division and strongest age group against teams with competition quality pools to train in, larger coaching staffs and far more experience.

A list of Emma’s Personal Best Times:

  • 50 yard Freestyle - 30.97
  • 100 Freestyle - 1:15.86
  • 200 Yard Freestyle - 2:59.54
  • 50 yard Breaststroke - 43.03
  • 100 yard Breaststroke - 1:33.10
  • 50 yard Butterfly - 38.83

When did you become interested in swimming?
I first became interested in swimming four years ago when my younger sister took lessons with Coach Maury.

Why do you like swimming?
I like swimming because it is a terrific way to stay in shape and to release stress and emotion. Whether I am racing or just hanging out at the pool, I always feel at home in the water.

What are your favorite/best strokes/events?
My best strokes are freestyle and breaststroke. My favorite events are the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard freestyle.

How long have you been on SVST?
I’ve been a year round swimmer on SVST for four years.

Who are your role models?
My role models are Rebecca Soni (world record holder in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events), Coach Maury and anyone that achieved a goal that no one believed they could.

Who is your favorite swimmer?
My favorite swimmers are Rebecca Soni and Dana Vollmer. Vollmer broke the world record in the 100 meter butterfly in London this summer. Soni has a great breaststroke technique.

What are your future goals?
My future goals are to continue swimming all the way through high school and go to college (where I hope I will swim on a college team). I want to achieve high honors on my report card at KMS for the rest of the year.

What are your hobbies?
I like to play soccer and basketball (and swim of course). I also snowboard and like to read and write.

When I grow up I want to....
When I grow up, I want to be happy. I haven’t really worked out a career choice but I want to be content with my life and what I have done with it.

What is your favorite book/movie?
My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I don’t have a favorite movie.

What famous person would you like to meet?
I would like to meet J.K. Rowling because I love the Harry Potter series. Or maybe funny celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres or Will Ferrell.

If I could change one thing it would be.....
To eliminate judgmental comments from the world forever, because they have no purpose but to make people feel bad or different.
